CityU Case Competition

CityU Case Competition is an annual competition that brings together students at City University of Hong Kong to investigate and analyze a specific business case for a particular organization. Through participating in the competition, students will have students will have an empirical learning experience that enhances their analytical competence, problem-solving abilities, team building and presentation skills, as well as bringing their talents into full play. Thereby gauging their potential, and bringing forth their talents. Our previous partners include PAOB, ICBC, CASH Financial Group, Birdie etc. 

Participants will present a solution according to a real-life business case derived from the sponsor organization. The case supplies the background of the organization and outlines pressing business issues that senior management needs to address. Supporting data and other relevant information such as operational reports, financial data, and market research studies will also be provided.

Update - Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony for CityU Case Competition 23/24 on 18 March 2024. More than 180 participants have attended the Ceremony and the Proposal writing training conducted by Stargazers Consulting.

We are more than grateful to have Ms. Rossella Chu (Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition) and Mr. David Poraj-Wilczynski (Assistant General Manager, Development & Valuation) in sharing their views and trends of Swire Properties' development and leadership in sustainability.

It was the first time that the CityU Case Competition allowed undergraduate students from all UGC-funded universities to join. With more than 250 participants, where more than 30 students from 7 other UGC-funded universities, we look forward to the participating teams striving their best for this year’s CityU Case Competition. 

Case Competition is always a great approach for you to pitch your unique ideas in a real-world business situation. We strongly encourage all of you to take the opportunity to join the CityU Case Competition 2024.

CityU Case Competition 2022/23
(Detailed Event Guide PDF)

Participants will present a solution according to a real-life business case derived from the sponsor organization. The case supplies the background of the organization and outlines pressing business issues that senior management needs to address. Supporting data and other relevant information such as operational reports, financial data, and market research studies will also be provided. 

The competing teams will have three weeks to use their skills and expertise in a wide range of business disciplines to complete their 8-page proposal for the first round. Teams which successfully pass through the first-round screening and proceed to the final round, will present their findings and recommendations to a panel of judges in the Grand Final. 

Meanwhile, an opening ceremony with a sharing session and a workshop would be provided. All competing teams must attend the opening ceremony.

With more than 100 participants this year, we look forward to our CityU Elites in striving their best for this year’s CityU Case Competition.

Grand Final

The CityU Case Competition 2022/23 Grand Final was successfully held on 20th May. 8 teams delivered their idea through a live presentation to professional judges from both Ping An OneConnect Bank (Hong Kong) Limited (PAOB) and CityU. The 4 judges are PAOB’s Chief Executive and Executive Director, Mr. Michael Fei, Head of Strategy and Partnerships, Mr. Ivan Chow, CityU’s Associate Head of Information Systems, Dr Alvin Leung, Associate Professor and EMBA Director of Economics and Finance, Dr Michael Wong.  
 
We would like to congratulate the following teams and speakers for their excellent performance:

Opening Ceremony

BPCC has successfully hosted the Opening Ceremony for CityU Case Competition 2023 on 25 March 2023. 

We are more than grateful to have Mr. Ivan Chow (Head of Strategy, Innovation and GBA Business, PAOB) and Mr. Victor Chan (Acting Head of Legal and Compliance, PAOB) in sharing their views and trends of PAOB’s leadership in the virtual banking industry. 


Moreover, we are honored to have Dr Raymond Wong (Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programmes) and Dr Michael Wong (EMBA Director and Associate Professor of Economics and Finance) in supporting the event.

Through participating in the competition, students will have hands-on learning that enriches their analytical competencies, problem-solving abilities, team building, and presentation skills. Thereby gauging their potentials, and bring forth their talents.

Co-organizer

This year, BPCC has the opportunity to collaborate with Birdie Mobile, a new telecommunication platform launched by SmartTone that aims to transform mobile services in Hong Kong and liberate customers from the strings attached to contracts. Steering away from unnecessary physical stores, they provide an exclusive self-service online platform where users can handle account matters right at their fingertips.
